EpigenCare, developer of an at-home test for epigenetic markers of the skin, has filed a patent application for its technology as “A method of creating epigenetic skin profile associated with skin quality.” Specifically, the patent outlines a technique to develop a skin profile from biological samples through epigenetic markers that are associated with skin quality.

The American Med Spa Association (AmSpa) will merge with the International Aesthetic and Laser Association (IALA) to add more than 250 members to its more than 1,200 existing members. Nicole Strothman founded the IALA in 2008 to bring together various industry stakeholders to focus on legal changes affecting medspas. At the time, many states and business owners were struggling with who could use certain medical devices, what level of physician supervision was necessary, and what was needed to ensure the lowest incident rates.

A recent study, published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (online July 2, 2018), revealed that human adipose cells transplanted into the scalps of mice caused a new layer of murine fat to form at the periphery of the graft. And the effect was enhanced when stromal vascular fraction (SFV) and a porcine extracellular matrix (Adipogel) was added to the grafted fat.

At three months post-treatment, patients who underwent nonablative radiofrequency (RF)-based procedures had better skin elasticity when compared to baseline. Researchers Anna Erkiert-Polguj, MD, PhD, et al, of the Medical University of Lodz in Lodz, Poland, treated 30 women (43 to 68 years of age) with nonablative RF (four sessions at two-week intervals). Biomechanical properties of the skin were analyzed at baseline and three months post-treatment using a cutometer.

Patients with facial telangiectasia who receive topical brimonidine following IPL treatment experience less postprocedure erythema with no reduction in efficacy. Anne‐Cathrine E. Vissing, Christine Dierickx, Katrine E. Karmisholt and Merete Haedersdal of Denmark, performed a randomized, two-center, single-blinded, split-face trial on 19 patients with facial telangiectasia.
